40A vs 48A EV Charger: The $2,000 Question

The dirty secret of charger shopping: for most drivers, 40A vs 48A changes your overnight charge by zero — both finish long before morning. What 48A can change is whether you need a panel upgrade.

When 48A is actually worth it

Big-battery trucks (Cybertruck, F-150 Lightning, Silverado EV, R1T) with heavy daily mileage, or two-EV households sharing one charger. Everyone else: buy 40A, or an adjustable unit that runs at whatever your panel supports.
